HCKP Indoor Championships: U18 Girls v U16 Girls

Well done to all the U16 & U18 Girls that played on Sunday and to the U16 Girls for their last minute victory! What a superb morning!

KP Indoor Champs Summary

The U18 Girls had obviously had an early night as they started the first match in superb form! Amelie scored a penalty corner within the first minute after a mistake in defence. Amelie then doubled the lead moments later after another error in defence. Sasha then scored twice to make it 4-0. The second from a lovely counter and assist from Bea. Bea then slammed home her own penalty corner with a great flick! 5-0 at half-time.

The second half picked up where the first finished as Cordy and Bea dominated the scoring. Cordy made it 6-0, before Bea capitalised from a defensive error to make it 7-0. Amelie then assisted Cordy for her second of the half. Grace scored to make it 9-0 and Cordy complete her hat-trick with a delightful finish to make it 10-0. This seemed to finally get the U16s going as Lottie capitalised on a rare defensive error by the U18s to make it 10-1. Lottie then assisted Mackenzie for 10-2. Was the come back on… No sadly! Sasha finished off the goal of the match in the final moments as a beautiful two touch move saw Cordy put Grace in, who rolled it to Sasha to tap home. 11-2 to the U18s it finished.

The U16s didn’t decline the U18s a rematch; instead, they chatted, changed a few things, and gave it another go! Unsurprisingly with a little bit of coaching and positive attitude the second match was a lot better!

The U16s flew out the blocks - Lottie putting Biba in for the opener before Biba slotted a penalty corner herself. Lottie made it 3-0 from another PC, before assisting Talya to make it 4. Mackenzie then rolled Talya in for the U16s fifth of the match. What a start, what a turnaround! The resistance come from Amelie as she scored twice to try and launch the come back, however two more assists from Lottie for Talya to roll home meant it was 7-2 at the break.

The second half continued where the first had finished as Biba made it 8-2, before Lottie scored after some excellent pressing for 9-2. Biba then scored her own self-made goal after pressing the ball U18s. A positive progress point for her! 10-2. Sasha scored a good goal to make it 10-3, however the U16s had the final say as they continued to pressurise the U18s defence, and they scored three more goals to make it 13-3. Isla with two superb drag-flicks and Lottie finishing the scoring into an empty net.

To the final match: 15 minutes one way.

Both teams refreshed, reflective and ready. This was the most competitive of the three matches. A superb team goal from Mackenzie opened the scoring. Lottie putting in Biba who unselfishly squared it to Mackenzie on the back post to finish. Unsurprisingly it was Amelie who levelled the scoring. Always pressing and working hard, her tenacity and quality was an ever-present throughout the morning. But it was the U16s and Lottie who had the final say. A superb individual goal to take it to 2-1 and for a win.

Overall, it was 17-15 to the U16s - what a morning!! So much fun, so much learnt - well done to everyone that took part, especially Connie who was playing in her first competitive indoor match!!
