U14 Boys & Girls Indoor Championships
On Sunday it was the turn of the U14 Boys & Girls to play off for the Indoor Championships! Having had a number of excellent tournaments together previously, there was much anticipation and excitement in the air!
The format of the day would be two matches (2x 20 minutes) with player-led time-outs and half-times.
In match one the Navy team came out the blocks the fastest. A string of penalty corner successes meant that they flew into a 3-0 lead. First Summer flicked home, before Amber converted a nice routine and then Bella also flicked home. Bella doubled a tally for the day on a counter attack as Summer drove through the pitch to put Bella in to score. The White team did score on the stroke of have time however after a defence error and Mack Copp was there to push the ball into the empty net. 4-1 to Navy.
The second half was a similar half. The Navy team dominated the ball and the chances. Summer once again pressing and tackling well in the midfield to score twice and take the score to 6-1. Mackenzie scored a goal for the Whites, however Bella made sure that a late comeback wasn’t possible with the final goal to make it 7-2 to Navy.
On to match two: a few changes to the teams, some player-led conversations and we were off and running!
In a much better indoor half of hockey for the defensively minded, the score line remained at statement for 19 minutes! Both Lilian and Annabel in goal were outstanding and it wasn’t until a defensive error was capitalised on by Bella that the deadlock was broken! 1-0 to Whites.
The second half could also be described as a typical indoor half! Not by the defence coach however! It was a goal fest! Clearly both teams had decided to come out and attack - and that’s what happened! First Summer latched onto a rebound to score. 2-0. Before Mack finished off a very nice team goal. 3-0. Amber then took the game to the Whites scoring another penalty corner and an individual effort. 3-2. Mack tapped in to make it 4-2, before the mercurial Mackenzie used some great skills to round a number of defenders and make it 4-3. A long pass through from Summer was coolly finished by Bella. 5-3, before Mackenzie scored again. The second of a second half hat-trick! 5-4 to Whites. Goals from Bella & Teddy made it 7-5 to Whites before Mackenzie scored her third goal of the game. The Whites removed their GK with 2 minutes left and created chances, however it wasn’t to be. They did win a final penalty corner however debutant Lilian made another great save to keep it out! Wow! What a second half!!
Well done to everyone that played! We look forward to the next one!
