Knole Park U12s travel to Surbiton for fixtures

Updated: Jun 28, 2021

On Sunday 16th May the U12 girls’ team set off to Surbiton for only their second game of this curtailed season. The team comprised several members of last year’s Kent winning under 10 team combined with a few year 7 girls, including some making their competitive debuts!

Surbiton started off more confidently and KP conceded an early goal. The girls reacted well and a fine run by Liliya down the right hand side of the pitch and a clean strike meant the scores were level. A couple of defensive errors resulted in two more Surbiton goals before Emily B scored from a tight angle after a well timed pass from Victoria. This first game ended 4-2 to Surbiton when the KP team were once again caught on the break. In the next three mini games, despite several opportunities and penalty corners, the young KP side failed to convert their chances and narrowly lost 2-0, 4-0 and 3-0. The games were closer than the scores suggest and Surbiton capitalised on being more physical, more confident in defence and more clinical in front of goal. However, there were plenty of positives for the KP team and they showed great potential, excellent ball carrying skills and Lilian made some super saves in goal. As the morning progressed the work rate, movement off the ball and passing improved considerably. Despite the miserable weather the KP team should be proud of their performance and attitude. Thank you to Surbiton for hosting and providing an excellent opportunity to learn and develop through match play.
