HC Knole Park’s Juniors start their season with a bang!

HC Knole Park’s U16A Girls and U18A Girls started their season on Sunday with three great performances in the new England Hockey South East Leagues.

The U16A had a triangular with Sevenoaks HC and Tunbridge Wells HC.

In the first match against Sevenoaks it was Mackenzie who opened the scoring. A superb run from Jess gave Mackenzie the chance to push home. 1-0. Amy scored KP’s second goal from a penalty corner. Two goals from Polly took the result away from Sevenoaks, and despite KP conceding late on, the final score was 4-1 to Knole Park.

In match two against Tunbridge Wells Polly continued where she left off in the previous match with a goal in the first minute. Summer made it 2-0 after finishing off a great run from Josefina. Amber made it 3-0 from a penalty corner, before Biba scored to make it 4-0 at half-time.

The second half was more of the same as Josefina scored the team’s fifth goal after a great pass from Grace. Jess then scored a superb solo goal, before Biba and Amber scored their second goals of the match respectively to make it 8-0. In a bizarre final minute the KP goalkeeper was sent off for an infringement outside the D. Tunbridge Wells scored from the resulting penalty corner. Final score 8-1.

In the U18A match it was also Knole Park versus Sevenoaks. Captain Elloise opened the scoring with a fantastic solo effort. Amelie doubled the advantage after latching onto a great through ball from Annabel. Amelie coolly rounded the goalkeeper and pushed home. 2-0. A lapse in concentration at the back proved costly moments later as a stray long ball was controlled by the forward and the recovering KP defender fouled her. Sevenoaks scored the resulting penalty stroke. Unperturbed, Annabel and Amelie linked up again. This time it was Annabel who scored to make it 3-1 at half-time.

After half-time the Sevenoaks goalkeeper was on fire as she kept everything that was hit at her out! Finally however, with a few minutes left, Amelie broke the second half deadlock after a lovely pass from Bea. Lottie completed the scoring late on with a penalty stroke. 5-1 to Knole Park it finished.

The U14A Girls’ matches against Sevenoaks and Tunbridge Wells were postponed to later in the season, as were the U14 Boys against Canterbury and Tunbridge Wells and U16B Girls against Tunbridge Wells and Holcombe.

All teams are in action again this Sunday in the EH Cup! The U16A play Sevenoaks again, whilst the U18A host East Grinstead. Our U16B Girls host Marden Russets, our U14 Boys & Girls travel to Canterbury and our U14B Girls host East Grinstead in what will be a wonderful introduction to 11 a-side hockey for those girls.
