Summer League 2nd May

Mack Copp on goal-scoring alert as the Boys pick up their first points of the summer!

In round 2 of the Knole Park Summer League the U14 & U16B Girls played the U14 & U16 Boys. Having both lost in round 1 there was an excitement in the air as either team could get their first points of the championships. It was however the clinical nature of the Boys team that gave them the win and the points as Mack Copp starred claiming 8 goals in a 15-2 win.

The match started with the U14/16 Boys in the ascendancy. The defence of Katie Eedes, Cara Gould, Isla Carman and Rose Ellis was tested early on and they managed to repel the early chances. However after 10 minutes Teddy Cannon rifled a backhand strike passed Tabitha Wimble in goal. 1-0. Sadly this seemed to throw the U14/U16B Girls and in losing their structure the Boys team capitalised. A great run from Moritz gave Ollie Dimond a tap in. 2-0. Before a skillful run by Teddy and an accurate through ball gave Mack Copp his first of the match. 3-0. Mack then tapped in from close range after a trademark Riley Webster run down the left hand side. 4-0. The Girls top goal-scorer Lauren Foster did claim a goal back for the girls after she sprinted through the defence after a lovely pass from Ella Walker to make it 4-1. Despite this lift in spirits the Boys claimed two more goals before half time as William James claimed his first official Knole Park goal and Mack Copp completed a first half hat-trick.

The second half was a much more even game and the Girls came out from half time very positive and keen to claw back the score line. However in doing so they left gaps in the defence which the boys were able to capitalise on. First Moritz Hippe cruised through to make it 7-1, before Louis van den Rijse scored a well-taken Panna. 8-1. Mack Copp then went on a remarkable run of scoring 5 goals in a row!! First he calmly volleyed in a bouncing ball from the right hand side, before slotting a penalty after an attack hit a foot on the line. A succession of three counter-attack goals left Tabitha stranded in goal and Mack was very cool in converting all three. 13-1 William James then scored from a rebounded Moritz shot, before Louis claimed his second of the game after a great cross from James Parker. 15-1. The final say was with the Girls team however as they never gave up, continued to push to score and gave 100% throughout. Elsa Taylor showing a great attitude to latch onto a loose ball in the D and slot it into the empty goal.

Many congratulations to Mack Copp on not only scoring 8 goals but for also scoring an incredible 124/100 on the GPS score system! A remarkable afternoon for the young KP star!

So the boys move up to 2nd, behind the U18 Girls & Adults who remain top. They face the U16A Girls next on Sunday to try and move to top of the league.

The U14/U16B Girls drop to bottom of the league, but have two very winnable matches coming up this weekend as they take on the U16A Girls on Friday evening and the U18 Girls & Adults on Sunday. It promises to be a wonderful week of hockey at Knole Park!
