HC Knole Park's U14 Boys travelled down to Winchester for a rearranged EH Cup match from before Christmas. Having had limited outdoor practice over the festive period the boys were excited to get out and play some 11 a-side hockey again!
The match started at a ferocious pace as the boys were sharp and they used their refined skills from the indoor matches to attack the Winchester goal. However having not asked for some goals on their Christmas list, their finishing wasn't quite on point to beat the Winchester defence! As the half wore on Winchester grew into the game and dominated the second half of the first period. Despite some excellent goalkeeping, Winchester slotted away three goals and took a commanding lead into the half-time break.
In the second half, Knole Park made some considerable improvements and an excellent individual goal from U12 star man Isaac Dale and a penalty corner from Charlie Harrison brought the boys close in score line. However in pushing for parity, the team were left exposed at the back and Winchester scored two break away goals, including a very strong run from their centre midfielder from his own half! Further chances for Knole Park came and went, however they just couldn't beat the Winchester goalkeeper who made a string of excellent saves! The final score was 2-5.
Despite the defeat it was another very encouraging performance from the boys in navy. The progress these boys are making is superb and we're sure their first win is just around the corner! Let's hope for another improved performance this Sunday as they travel to Old Georgian's in the Mercian Premier League. Go for it boys!
