U14A Girls play East Grinstead in the EH Cup

Updated: Jul 6, 2021

Seven months after the U14A girl’s first and only match of the season, the girls took to the field again in the Summer EH Cup. An excellent performance saw the girls run out 9-2 winners against a good East Grinstead side. Talya top scored with a fantastic hat-trick!

The girls got off to the perfect start. Some lovely individual skills from Summer saw her round a number of the EG defenders before slipping the ball to Talya for a simple and enjoyable close range finish! The girls were made to wait for their second as the EG defence held firm and their GK was like a ball magnet! She made a number of excellent saves throughout the match for EG. However it was Summer once again who worked her way through the EG defence, rounding the GK and scoring from an acute angle. Moments later Charlotte scored a stunning backhand strike to make it 3-0. Having worked exceptionally hard to perfect this technique, it was a joy to see Charlotte have the confidence and quality to execute this in a match. Well done!

The second half was a much improved performance. Once again the girls started the half very well. A stunning run from Evie saw her taken out by the EG goalkeeper. Sadly the resultant penalty was missed, however it wasn’t too long before Talya scored her second of the match. Quick thinking from Summer put Ines in. Her purposeful run was superb and this left Talya with the easiest of tap-ins! 4-0. The girl’s fifth goal came from a penalty corner. A broken corner was flicked towards goal and summer, fresh from her tennis lessons(!), overhead smashed it into the goal! 5-0. The sixth goal came from the quick play of Isla and Elsa. Their interplay through the right, put Summer in. She rolled a perfectly weight ball through to Mackenzie who sprinted onto the ball before slipping it under the goalkeeper. 6-0.

EG continue to press and play and they scored a very good goal from a well worked free hit outside the D. 6-1. This seemed to spur the KP girls on and a skilful Betty run through saw her slip the ball to Ines to flick home. 7-1. EG scored once again with a good strike to make it 7-2, but it was KP who finished the match the stronger. Once again, almost from the restart, Summer took the ball on through the broken defence, before slipping the ball to Evie to finish. Talya finished the scoring for the day with her hat-trick goal! 9-2.

Thank you to EG for the long awaited match. Well done to everyone that played in what was a fantastic team performance! The next round the girls will face Brighton/Eastbourne. The Cup run has begun!
