On Saturday HC Knole Park’s Women’s 2s welcomed Wootton Wanderers 1s, from Northamptonshire, to Radnor House School for the National semi-final of the England Hockey Tier 4 Cup. In a fantastic performance the team ran out 7-0 winners and are through to the National Cup Final on the 21st May!
The game started at a fantastic pace, and it was a superb run by Alessia who won a penalty corner that was coolly converted by Mackenzie. The second goal was a wonderful team goal as Amie and Alessia linked up with Summer to carve through the Wootton defence. It was then Summer who was able to beat the goalkeeper to roll the ball into the empty goal. As the half progressed, Wootton rallied and had several attacks themselves, but the defence of Alice, Betsy, Ines, Jasmine, and Cara kept the Wootton attacks at bay. Just before half-time, Summer won a penalty corner which Polly converted from close range. Ella made it 4-0 at half-time after some sublime skill once again from Mackenzie as she beat five defenders before selflessly passing to Ella to push home.
In the second half Wootton came out fighting once again and created more moments in attack. But captain LJ, and Charlotte S made some vital tackles. When they couldn’t, it was Alice making some amazing saves in goal! As the match drew to a close Summer started to dominate and she converted two penalty corners, as well as setting up Polly for her second of the match. The final score was 7-0 and the Women’s 2s will compete at Knole Park’s ninth National Final of the season on the 21st May at Lee Valley Hockey Centre!
